The Mahabaleshwar Temple in Gokarna is unique for housing the Atmalinga (soul of Shiva), a powerful Linga given to Ravana and tricked into being placed here by Lord Ganesha. Known as "Dakshin Kashi", it is a major pilgrimage site where devotees can see the top of the Linga directly. The temple, a key Muktistala, is known for its strict dress code.
